The world of asana as taught in traditional India is far richer and more wide-ranging than many expect. In modern times, there has been a segregation of "styles," but traditional lineages offer a huge variety of ways to work with the body. Bernd's teaching synthesizes various traditional principles into a cohesive whole, covering a wide range of techniques and their impact on mental and emotional states, preparing practitioners for the higher limbs of yoga.

Bernd brings over two decades of experience in yoga and meditation. His teaching philosophy, shaped by a personal journey of healing and growth, emphasizes mindful movement and compassionate care for the body. Since moving to Bali in 2014, Bernd has drawn inspiration from the island’s energy while deepening his studies with renowned teachers like Gregor Maehle, Monica Gauci, and AG Mohan.
With Bernd, expect a thoughtful balance of physical challenge and spiritual growth, guiding you toward deeper self-awareness and personal transformation.
Bernd has been teaching yoga, meditation, and contemplative arts since 2005, after beginning his deep, daily practice in 2001. His mission is to guide students on a journey toward a life that grows more magical, meaningful, and profound every day.
Since moving to Bali in 2014, Bernd has felt deeply connected to the energy of the island, which continuously inspires his work. However, also in 2014, a disc herniation (L4/5) dramatically shifted his approach to the body and yoga practice, emphasizing the importance of presence, kindness, and care in all physical work. This experience has shaped the way he teaches, focusing on mindful movement and a compassionate approach to the body.
Bernd’s teaching is informed by a variety of influential mentors, including Gregor Maehle and Monica Gauci, who introduced him to the full eight limbs of yoga, and AG Mohan, who guided him in traditional Indian yoga philosophy. His meditation practice has been shaped by Ajahn Brahm and Vajradaka, both of whom have helped him explore the depths of mindfulness and meditation. Philip Xerri was his first serious pranayama teacher, and Guruji Maharaj currently guides him in his meditative practice within a traditional Shaivic system.
In addition to his practical training, Bernd’s studies include classical Hatha yoga texts, Buddhist philosophical manuals, Vedantic teachings, Samkhya philosophy, and a wide range of yoga literature. His passion for ancient texts and mythical literature continues to enrich his understanding and teaching.
In Bernd’s classes, students can expect to be both challenged and supported. His teaching style encourages growth through gentle guidance, offering tools for personal transformation and deeper connection to oneself and the world.
Bernd is one of my favorite teachers. You can tell he dedicates his life to the practice and his path. Apart from being so kind and joyful he helps me so much improving my asana posture but also my pranayama practice. 4 years ago I met Bernd during my YTT with the Peaceful Warriors in Bali and I'm so glad to be able to practice with him online now. THANK YOU!
Every time I attend a Bernd’s class, he always elevates my yoga practice and takes me into new territory. I have practiced yoga almost every day for over 8 years and have taken yoga TTC twice. It is very rare to meet such a wonderful teacher, so I would like to cherish this opportunity. thank you 🙏
Bernd is a peaceful warrior and a true Yogi in every fashion. Though his physical stature is normal, his energetic stature is that of a gentle giant. His heart and peaceful presence enter the room before he does, and he leaves kindness and gentle words in his wake wherever he goes. You would be so fortunate to take classes from this true Yogi, who lives, breathes, and practices his yoga on the mat and off the mat throughout his life. He is able to easily share from his heart and memory yoga philosophy, Asana practice, pranayama, and meditation techniques that gently shape the student. His gentle, confident, and knowing hands cue the student beautifully along with his words inspiring them to fully understand an Asana posture, and to embody it in a way they never thought possible. This gentle man has left his mark on my life, and will be forever remembered. If I were still in Bali, I would be there in a heartbeat to share in the joy of the opening of this wonderful new yoga practice. I hope that many of you take advantage of this opportunity for me. And someday you may be lucky enough to hear him sing yoga mantra's which carry you into the cosmos on the deep resonant vibrations of his voice.
